PHS opens season with wins over SL, SV
The Parkland High School boys lacrosse team began the 2025 regular season on a high note, winning its first two games on the schedule.
Parkland opened the season with a home victory over Southern Lehigh, 10-4, last Tuesday, March 18. Two days later, the Trojans downed Saucon Valley on the road 19-6.
In the win over the Spartans, Bailey Wetmore finished with three goals and an assist. Parker Kusko and Colton Arezzi each tallied two goals with the former adding one assist and the latter two assists. Blake Finnegan, Brennan Shaner and Mazz Afif both had a goal with Finnegan contributing an assist. John Gerancher recorded three assists. Max Esteban won 16-of-18 faceoffs. Andrew Matulevicius finished with nine saves in net.
Against the Panthers, Parkland raced out to a 10-0 lead after the first quarter and scored seven more in the second quarter to lead 17-2 at halftime and cruised through the second half. There were 12 different players that found the back of the net, led by four goals and two assists from Kusko.
Isaiah Fisher totaled three goals and one assist. Gerancher and Breckin Serratore both tallied two goals and combined for three assists. Esteban, Finnegan, Wetmore, Matt Scott, Matt Kelley, Shaner, Nate Lowrey and Jake Posocco all contributed one goal. Arezzi dished out five assists. Owen Radio won 13 faceoffs while Esteban had eight. Three different goalies saw time as Evan Saylor finished with eight saves, Matulevicius ended with three saves and Owen Fehnel had one.
Parkland had a busy start to its week with a game at Delaware Valley Monday evening and then hosted Moravian Academy on Tuesday. A game with Bethlehem Catholic, scheduled for Thursday was postponed so the Trojans won’t play until Tuesday at Freedom.
