Peterson scores six goals in win over Nazareth
The Emmaus High School girls lacrosse team put together two impressive victories in its only two games last week, both in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.
The Hornets put together a dominating effort in defeating Nazareth 20-8 last Tuesday, April 8, and followed that up with a 14-8 victory over Liberty Thursday night.
In the win over the Blue Eagles, it was close after the first quarter as Emmaus led just 5-4. But the Hornets took full control of the game with a dominant two-quarter span where they outscored Nazareth 13-2 and led 12-6 at halftime and 18-6 after three.
Brooke Peterson led the offense with six goals, while Abby DiComes recorded four goals and five assists. Rylie Poll tallied three goals and four assists and Sarah Gross netted three goals. Taylor Younker finished with two goals and both Kate Newhard and Kenna Guzick ended with one goal. Sofia Isaksson recorded two assists. Devin O’Neil finished with four saves in net and Kate Rainford added three.
In the victory against the Hurricanes, Emmaus trailed after the opening quarter 4-3 and were tied 5-5 at halftime, but broke away with a 6-2 third quarter spurt and a 3-1 fourth quarter.
There were seven different goal scorers for the Hornets, led by three goals and an assist from Poll. DiComes tallied two goals and five assists. Gross, Younker and Sarah Palazzo all had two goals while Peterson notched two goals and an assist. Isaksson rounded out the scoring with a goal, while McKenna Guzik added an assist. O’Neill finished with six saves.
Emmaus improved to 6-4 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
