NWL boys lax get balanced goal scoring
Coaches love to see balanced scoring from their team.
In the early going, Marcus Janda has to like what he sees from his team as three different players are tied for the top spot in goals scored this season for the Northwestern boys lacrosse team.
It’s an added bonus that the three players are two sophomores and a freshman. The result is a 3-1 record to open the season. Janda’s nerves might like to see some larger margins of victory as the Tigers have outscored their opponents by just six goals in their three wins this season.
The season opened with a 7-6 win against Northampton with five different players picking up goals, led by sophomore Tyler Kaas and freshman Kendall Wikert who both scored twice in the win. Lucas Heeps, Michael Lagowy, and Logan Uricchio all scored once in the win for Northwestern.
Northwestern defeated Pleasant Valley 11-9 before falling to Nazareth in a 7-6 game. Against the Blue Eagles, Braydon Uricchio, a sophomore, picked up a hat trick with Kaas scoring twice and Wikert added a goal.
This week opened with Northwestern picking up an 8-5 win over Liberty with Braydon Uricchio scoring twice and dishing out three assists in the win. Wikert and Logan Uricchio also scored twice with Kaas, Lagowy, and Austin Bittenbender all adding a goal.
Junior Dane Kauker has taken over in goal this season and made a season-high 14 saves against Nazareth.
Sophomores Kaas and Braydon Uricchio share the team lead in goals with freshman Wikert. Another freshman, Logan Uricchio is next in the number of total goals.
The next week has road games against Allentown Central Catholic and Southern Lehigh and a home game against Emmaus.
