Hornet softball stays unbeaten in league play

The Emmaus High School softball team continued its strong start to the 2025 regular season, especially in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference competition, as it won both conference matchups last week on the road in three innings.

Emmaus scored season-highs in runs in back-to-back games, while also shutting out the opponents.

The Green Hornets defeated Allen 20-0 last Wednesday and then followed that up with a 21-0 victory over East Stroudsburg North on Friday. The Hornets suffered their first setback of the season Saturday, falling in a nonleague game against Abington Heights, 6-5 in eight innings.

In the win against the Canaries, Emmaus put up 14 runs in the top of the first inning and added six more in the second to finish off the game early.

Morgan Schwab and Sophia Tranguch both finished with three hits and five RBIs to lead the lineup.

Sadie Haefeli recorded two hits and four RBIs and Sydney Bennett tallied two hits, an RBI and scored two runs. Amanda King contributed two RBIs, while earning the win inside the circle with five strikeouts.

In the victory over the Timberwolves, Emmaus scored six runs in the first, five in the second and 10 in the third.

Hornet pitcher Mari Eiswerth no-hit ESN for the win. Avery DeFanti went 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs. Schwab and Avery Shank both had two hits and four RBIs. Haefeli recorded two hits, three RBIs and scored three runs.

The Hornets scored a run in the top of the first, but the Comets answered with three in the bottom half. Emmaus tied the game with two in the fifth and, after going to extras, scored two more in the eighth, but Abington Heights recorded three to walk it off.

Both teams finished with eight hits, led by two each from DeFanti and Hauver. Haefeli contributed a hit and two RBIs.

Emmaus has a busy stretch of games coming up as it is at Liberty Tuesday and then hosts Dieruff on Thursday.

The Hornets are at East Stroudsburg South on Saturday morning and host Stroudsburg Monday, all conference games.
