Hornet girls lacrosse routs Northampton 18-1

The Emmaus High School girls lacrosse team won two of its first three games during opening week of the 2025 regular season, but has since lost two of their last three since then.

The Hornets suffered their first Eastern Pennsylvania Conference loss, 7-4, against Easton at Memorial Field last Tuesday, March 25, but responded by scoring a season-best 18 goals in an 18-1 victory at Northampton on Thursday. They concluded the week by falling at home to Wilson West Lawn, 12-9, on Saturday afternoon.

The game with the Red Rovers was tightly contested throughout, especially the first half. The two teams were tied 2-2 after the first quarter and Easton led 4-3 at halftime. But the Red Rovers scored three of the four goals in the second half to hold on for the win. Abby DiComes paced the attack with three goals and an assist, while Sarah Gross tallied one goal. Brooke Peterson contributed an assist and Devin O’Neil finished with seven saves in net.

In the victory over the Kids, DiComes had a season-high nine-point game, finishing with team-bests four goals and five assists. Each of Gross, Rylie Poll and Taylor Younker had hat tricks and Kathryn Newhard netted two goals and dished out three assists. Peterson, Ally Kusko and McKenna Guzik found the back of the net once. O’Neil totaled two saves.

Against the Bulldogs, Gross notched three of her team’s nine goals and both Poll and Sofia Isaksson tallied two goals. Peterson and Younker rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. O’Neil ended with 11 saves in net.

Emmaus, which is now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference, hosted Northwestern Lehigh in a nonconference game Tuesday night and is at Pleasant Valley in conference action on Thursday evening.
