EHS softball rolls past PME, BC

The Emmaus High School softball team has continued its strong play during the 2025 regular season. That continued last week as the Hornets won all three of their games, two of them in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and the other nonconference.

Last Monday, April 14, Emmaus defeated Pocono Mountain East 9-1 and followed that a day later with a 16-5 victory in five innings over Bethlehem Catholic. Last Thursday, the Hornets shutout Spring-Ford 8-0.

In the win over the Cardinals, Emmaus scored two runs in the first inning and in each of the fourth through sixth innings while also recording a run in the second. The Hornets outhit PME 12-4, led by three hits from Avery DeFanti and Taylor Hauver, each scoring two runs.

Mari Eiswerth went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Amanda King, Sadie Haefeli and Avery Shank all had a hit and an RBI. Eiswerth threw a complete game, allowing just four hits and striking out six.

In the victory against the Golden Hawks, the Emmaus bats got after it early and often as the Hornets scored four runs in the first and fourth innings, three in the second and five in the third. The Hornets finished with 17 hits, led by four from Haefeli, who also had five RBI and scored four runs. Sophia Tranguch was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Hauver, King and Shank each tallied two hits.

In the game with the Rams, Emmaus scored a run in its first at-bats and then added three in both the bottom of the third and fifth innings, adding another in the sixth. Both Haefeli and Abigail Derr finished with three hits to lead the lineup. The duo also combined for three RBI and four runs scored. Morgan Schwab tallied a hit and two RBI. Eiswerth struck out nine in a complete game victory.

Emmaus, which improved to 12-2 overall and 9-1 in the conference, is the only EPC team with less than two losses on its record. The Hornets are in line to earn the top seed for the league playoffs if they remain on top of the standings.

The team has a three-game week this week. The Hornets were at Whitehall Monday and are at Central Catholic Wednesday before hosting Allen on Friday.
