Stakes announces candidacy for township commissioner

Taylor Stakes has announced his candidacy for Whitehall Township commissioner. Stakes, a Democrat, said he is a dedicated community advocate, parent and experienced public servant.

A former municipal policy adviser and current media professional in the mental health field, Stakes is running on a platform focused on transparency, smart growth and practical solutions for families and neighborhoods.

“As the parent of three young children, including one with special needs, I understand the real challenges families face in our community,” Stakes said. “That perspective shapes everything I do. I’m running because Whitehall deserves leadership that listens, plans for the future and puts families first.”

Stakes said his campaign will focus on several key priorities, including transparency and building trust through clear communication and accountable decision making; protecting neighborhoods by supporting safe streets, strategic zoning and responsible development that preserves the character of Whitehall’s communities; supporting families through expanding access to parks and recreation; investing in youth programs and ensuring Whitehall is a place where families of all backgrounds and needs can thrive; smart budgeting by reducing over reliance on mall and retail tax revenue by encouraging mixed-use development and long-term financial planning; and planning for the future through advocating for a new comprehensive plan to replace the outdated 2005 version.

“Our community has changed dramatically in the last two decades. We need a thoughtful, community-driven vision that reflects who we are now and who we want to become,” Stakes said.

Stakes holds a degree in political science from University of Texas at San Antonio, a master’s degree in communications from University of the Incarnate Word and previously served as chief of constituency for San Antonio City Council District 9, where he led on zoning, planning and constituent services.

He currently works as an adjunct professor of media and communications at Lehigh Carbon Community College and is a media production manager for a national higher education virtual mental health care company.

“I’m running to bring fresh ideas, honest leadership and a strong work ethic to the board of commissioners,” Stakes said. “This campaign is about creating a Whitehall that works for everyone — now and for generations to come.”
