SHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I currently am enrolled in 12th grade: my last year! I have enjoyed my time at SHS, but I am ready for the next chapter of my life.

Q. Who is in your family? Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My dad’s name is Jose, and my mom’s is Maria. I have one sister who is 11 years older than me: Fatima. As for pets, we have a Pekingese named Appa. He is 5 years old.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is history by far. It helps me understand how the world came to be, connecting past events to present realities in a fascinating way. Mr. Frick and Mr. Barna have taught history in a way that made me excited to learn more about it.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I was inducted into National Honor Society in my sophomore year.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A. I am involved in Key Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Club, Student Government Association, and AEVIDUM. I definitely plan on joining more community service clubs in college.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My next goal after high school would be to earn a bachelor’s degree in something business-related from Penn State University. I am also considering going to graduate school.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. I would consider my current biggest challenge to be planning out my four years at college. There are many things to consider like tuition costs, scholarships, dorms, classes, etc.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would like to be remembered for my respectful and grounded nature. I hope people remember me as someone who treated others with kindness, stayed true to their core values and remained steady and thoughtful even in challenging situations.

Q. If you could spend an evening conversing with any historically significant person, whom would you choose? Why?

A. I would love to spend an evening conversing with English novelist, Jane Austen. I believe she was so ahead of her time! Her works are timeless. I would enjoy listening to her perspectives and ideas on any topics that were not discussed in her books.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. As obvious as this may sound, I would advise my peers to surround themselves with people who align with their values. I truly believe that who someone surrounds themselves with is who they become. This holds especially true in influential environments like school.
