Whitehall welcomes new fire chief

Mark Bilder was sworn in as fire chief during the Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners’ May 13 meeting.

Bilder, a longtime volunteer with the township department, previously served as deputy fire marshal.

He succeeds David Nelson, who moved on to another department after seven years with the township. Joseph Shambo served as interim chief when Nelson left his post.

In another ceremony held during the commissioners meeting, police Chief Michael Marks recognized seven officers who were promoted in the past year.

Christopher Longo, Nicholas Squires, Joseph Remmel, Nicholas Stribany, Kevin Sell and Lindsay Yetter were all promoted to sergeant. Derek Williams was promoted to lieutenant.

In other business, the board approved two land development plans.

Resolution 3319 approved the plan for a Mister Carwash at 2160 MacArthur Road, previously Mavis Tire. The current building will be demolished, and in its place, a 5,434-square-foot tunnel car wash building, with self-service vacuum stalls, will be constructed.

The developer of the car wash has agreed to install sidewalks and curb cuts along the frontage of the property along MacArthur Road.

The board of commissioners also approved resolution 3321, a redevelopment plan for Taco Bell. The fast-food restaurant, located at 2113 MacArthur Road, will demolish the current building and, in its place, create a new 2,690-square-foot building.

This new building, according to the plan, will allow for an expanded dual drive-thru area. The expansion of that area will take some seating space from the inside of the building.

The board next meets 7 p.m. June 3 at the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road.
