Hornet boys tennis begins postseason play

The Emmaus boys tennis team finished the regular season last week and began postseason play at the annual East Penn Conference Championships.

The Hornets finished the season 15-3 overall and 13-2 in EPC matches.

In the league tournament, Emmaus saw one singles player and one doubles team take second place while another Hornet finished third in the event.

Chris Stone finished second in the tournament’s No. 2 singles bracket. The No. 2 seed won his first two matches before falling to Roman Farhad in the title match.

The Emmaus fourth doubles team of Caleb Brashear and Ayden Kegley also took second place in their bracket. They won two matches before falling in the title match to Liberty’s Caden Vermulen and EJ Powers.

Nick Stone took third place at No. 1 singles. He was seeded fourth in the No. 1 singles bracket and won his first match before falling to eventual champ Luke Appleman of Liberty in the semifinal. Stone won the third-place match over Timmy Spinosa of Central Catholic.

Emmaus finished the season with a 6-0 win over East Stroudsburg North Wednesday.

Nick Stone, Caleb Brown and Quinn Durkin won singles matches against the Timberwolves, while the doubles teams of Ben Fletcher/Ryan Baig, Quaid Peatiwala/Sarvesh Senguttavan and Josh Haas/Ahmed Naveed won doubles matches.

Emmaus dropped a 4-2 match with Parkland last Monday. Nick and Chris Stone both won singles matches against the Trojans.

Emmaus beat Whitehall 6-0 on April 10.

Nick Stone, Chris Stone and Brown won singles matches, while Durkin/Fletcher, Peatiwala/Baig and Brashear/Cole Stuchko won doubles matches.

In a 6-0 win over East Stroudsburg South on April 8, Chris Stone, Brown and Durkin won singles matches, while Fletcher/Baig, Stuchko/Sai Upperetla and Naveed/Haas won doubles matches.

The Hornets played two matches on April 6, facing Freedom in a league match and Saucon Valley in a nonconference contest.

The Hornets prevailed 4-3 against Freedom as Chris Stone picked up a singles win and teamed up with Nick Stone for a doubles win. Doubles teams Peatiwala/Senguttavan and Kegley/Brashear also won matches against the Patriots.

The Hornets fell 3-1 to Saucon Valley with Chris Stone earning the Hornets’ only win.

Emmaus players are competing in District 11 singles and doubles tournaments this week. Next week the Hornets will begin District 11 team tournament play as the No. 3 seed with a first-round match up against No. 6 Northampton.
