Dolores Mary Mervan steel “elevator girl”

Dolores Mary Mervan, 92, of Bethlehem and of Westfield, New Jersey, died April 14, 2024, at Overlook Hospital, Summit, New Jersey. Born on the SouthSide of Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Stephen and Virginia (Knipe) Kerso. She was the wife of the late Stephen C. Mervan for 57 years.

She attended St. John Capistrano Church and the Hungarian Catholic school. She was a 1949 Bethlehem Catholic HS graduate.

She was an escort, known as an “elevator girl,” responsible for welcoming guests, for Bethlehem Steel from 1949 to 1954.She was a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn, and husband Quaid Kapadia of Westfield, New Jersey, and three grandchildren, Alexandra, Alistair and Andrew; a son, Stephen Mervan and wife Lorraine of Pittsburgh; a grandson, Matthew and wife Emily and two great-grandchildren, Maxwell and William; and a brother-in-law, Robert Labdik and wife Karen of Macungie.
