Ruth Rauch Henry

Ruth Rauch (Wagner) Henry, 94, formerly of Schnecksville, died April 11, 2024, in Luther Crest Continuing Care Retirement Community, South Whitehall.

She was the wife of the late Rev. Harold George Henry.

Born Oct. 15, 1929, in Cetronia, she was the daughter of the late Ellis G. and Elda S.E. (Rauch) Wagner.

A 1947 graduate of the former South Whitehall High School, at the age of 52, in 1981, she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree from Duke University.

She then earned a Licensed Practical Nurse degree and worked at North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, N.C., primarily caring for premature babies in the NICU.

She later spent several years working in the nursing center at Luther Crest.

Her faith was a sustaining influence in her life as she was consistently active and engaged in her church, both Trinity Lutheran, Lansdale, and Union Lutheran, Schnecksville.

Among her many roles within the church, she served with several choirs for many years, as a Stephens Mission ambassador delivering communion to shut ins, and was always generous in offering love, support and prayer to those in need.

Music was a major theme of and brought joy to her throughout her life.

As a young vocalist and violinist, she joined Bach Choir, Bethlehem, in 1956, and maintained that affiliation through the next six decades.

A lifelong learner, she helped found a local investor’s club.

She loved to study investments and shared that information willingly as she lived a truly meaningful and economically frugal life.

As an avid gardener, she seemed to always have something in bloom in her gardens over many years.

Her survivors include children Patricia W. Henry of Plymouth, Mass., Susan W. Henry of Oriental, N.C., Richard W. Henry of Chapel Hill; granddaughter Taylor Henry Meyer (Bradley) of Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren Henry Luke and Selah Lucinda Meyer; sister-in-law Mary Ann Henry of Schnecksville; nieces Julie Wehr (Philip) of Neffs, and Nonee Lee Wagner (Daniel Hoban) of Cherry Hill, N.J.

She was predeceased by her brother, Robert L. Wagner.
