Funds available for repairs to East Allen Township roads

At the March 14 East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting, township Manager Brent Green presented a recommendation to authorize bidding for the 2024 township road program.

Green announced there is about $900,000 available to help fund the township’s road program. It was noted this amount of resources is partially the result of financial planning by the manager and board of supervisors. It also is partially attributed to the funding provided by the federal government.

The list of roads considered for renewal or refurbishing is available by contacting the township office.

In other business, supervisors approved a resolution recommending final approval for the Jenkins Machine Shop lot consolidation minor subdivision plan.

A sewer study by Hanover Engineering requested by Traditions of America was also approved.

A recommendation to approve a holding tank agreement for First Regional Compost Authority, 6701 Weaversville Road, was tabled.

FRCA wants to construct a holding tank on the property. Board Chair Roger Unangst asked for a reason for a holding tank versus a septic tank. Green said he will pursue an answer from FRCA and report to the board at the next supervisors meeting.

Supervisors approved authorizing the execution of a contract for a township website in the amount of $11,859. The cost could be spread across five years, according to Green.

Another recommendation for the execution of a contract for line striping was approved at a cost of $14,271.54. Unangst asked about a substantial drop in the cost of the paint from last year. Reportedly, the paint being used this year is of less quality than last year.

In response to Unangst’s comment that the lines are harder to see, Green and the township engineer reported the paint used today meets all standards from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. They added that paint in the past was an oil-based paint, which may have had a bit more reflective quality.

Supervisors approved the purchase of a snow plow for the township’s 2022 GMC 35HD truck for $9,400.

The next East Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting is set for 7 p.m. April 25 at the township municipal building, 5344 Nor-Bath Blvd. It is a hybrid meeting, with both in-person and virtual options. Contact the township office to get access numbers to view the meeting virtually.
