Pates look for more

Freedom’s volleyball team may have felt like they left something on the table last year with their first round exit from the District 11 postseason.

This year they want to make sure they achieve the results they want.

The Pates finished last year 11-9 and lost to Nazareth in district, but head coach John Yanek knows this year’s group is determined not to repeat last year’s results.

“Almost all players participated in Velocity or Lehigh Valley Club Volleyball,” said Yanek. “They are a very close team. We will do well if our defense can hold up. The returners felt we could have achieved more last season and are hungry to improve and set a higher standard.”

Back for the Pates are Dan Soleymani (OH), Joe Braun (S) and Ayden Willman (OPP). Newcomers include Logan Shupp (OH), Adam Van Camp (MB), Bailey Fleckenstein (libero), Ben Soleymani (MB), Om Chand (DS) and Amrinder Gill (libero/DS).

Freedom is off to a hot start, beating Bethlehem Catholic, Northampton and Southern Lehigh in their first three matches. They have Notre Dame and Dieruff on tap this week to keep their momentum going.

Our goals are to qualify for EPC’s and districts and achieve semifinals in both,” said Yanek.
