PHS softball looks to compete for titles

The Parkland High School softball team is entering the 2024 regular season looking to replace a number of different starters on the diamond from last year.

The Trojans finished last year 9-11 overall and 9-7 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. They qualified for the District 11 6A playoffs, but lost in their first game, a 2-0 defeat in the first round to Pleasant Valley.

This year Parkland is looking for its first district title since 2019 and first conference championship since 2022.

“It’s a new season and we have high goals and expectations this year as with every year,” said head coach Barry Search. “This group is coachable and works hard every day. I’m excited for what they will do this season.”

Some of the top returning players this season include senior infielder Morgan Schultz, junior infielders Allison Hunsberger, Marie Moore, Emma Kushner and Chelsea Dietrick, junior outfielders Anna Belletieri and Amelia Dawson and sophomore infielders Libby Pinkham and Addison Fritzinger.

“We are a young team and hoping to gel as a group sooner rather than later in the season,” said Search. “This is an exciting group to coach, and I am blessed with a great group of knowledgeable coaches.”

Parkland’s 2024 regular season campaign began on the road this past Tuesday at Allen in conference play. The Trojans are at Freedom on Thursday to end the first week of competition. The home opener is set for Monday against Whitehall.
