EHS tennis season begins this week

The Emmaus High School boys tennis team, under head coach Fred Saab, is looking to improve upon an 11-6 season overall last year and 10-5 mark in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference.

The Green Hornets will be led at the top of the lineup by some upperclassmen, which gives them experience and leadership just where they need it.

Some of the top returners for this season are juniors Nick Stone and Quinn Durkin, along with seniors Sarvesh Senguttuvan, Quiad Peatiwala, Ben Fletcher and Ryan Baig. Two key newcomers are Chris Stone and Caleb Brown. They are both Freshman. Two key newcomers are Chris Stone and Caleb Brown. They are both freshmen.

“It is too early to predict the lineup,” said Saab last week. “Nick and Chris Stone will play singles, but the rest of the lineup is open.”

Saab wants his team to be improved upon last year, not only on the court, but also off the court as well.

“My goals and expectations for this upcoming season are that the boys always try their hardest with maximum effort and to be respectful of their opponent, coaches, officials, and spectators,” Saab said. “We were 11-6 last season so our goal is to improve upon that. Also, I want us to have strong EPC and district tournament performances.”

According to Saab, some of the top contenders in the conference include Parkland, Liberty and Freedom, all three finished in the top-three in the standings at the end of last season.

Emmaus was scheduled to open the season Monday with a match against Liberty. The Hornets have five matches slated for opening week, including a nonleague contest at Blue Mountain Tuesday, and league matches against Central Catholic (Wednesday) and Pocono Mountain East (Friday) before facing nonleague foe Southern Lehigh on Saturday.
