Marie L. Chattin

Marie L. Chattin, 96, a resident of Freedom Village, West Brandywine, formerly of Schnecksville, died peacefully Feb. 26, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

The wife of the late Donald J. Chattin Sr., the couple was married for 68 years.

Born Aug. 12, 1927, in New York City, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Ludolph O. and Louise W. (Hubner) Koven.

She was a graduate of Easton High School and Flower Fifth Avenue School of Nursing, New York City.

Upon graduation as an RN she became the school nurse at Palisades High School, where she met her husband, who also worked there.

Subsequently, she became a part time nurse at Allentown Osteopathic Hospital and eventually became the school nurse at Parkland High School in 1968.

Since moving to Schnecksville in 1959, she has been a member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville.

She loved living in Schnecksville where she and her husband met many lifelong friends.

She enjoyed sitting on their back deck watching birds and wildlife in the game preserve.

After retiring she and her husband traveled extensively and visited many interesting places domestically and overseas.

For many years, the entire family would vacation in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and she and her husband enjoyed spending the first week of each summer at the beach with their grandchildren.

Her survivors include sons Donald J. Chattin Jr. and his fiancée, Deborah J. Vater, of Naples, Fla. and Schnecksville, Peter L. Chattin and his wife, Bonnie, of Elkton, Md.; grandchildren Shawn, Monica, Samuel, Donald III and Kelsey; and great-grandsons Hudson and Hayden.

She was predeceased by siblings Ludolph O. Koven Jr. and Elizabeth J. Midboe (Koven).

Her memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. May 25 in Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, with the Rev. Gordon A. Camp officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects 12:30-1:30 p.m., Saturday in the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
