Community Easter Egg Hunt set for March 23

The Lower Macungie Library will be closed March 29 and 30 for spring holiday. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

There are many library events including a Spring Has Sprung Scavenger Hunt 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 22 for youth.

Longwood Gardens Community Read Book Discussion: “The Last Garden in England” by Julia Kelly will be held 6:30-8 p.m. March 26 on Zoom.

There will be Sensory Coloring and Crafting for adults 11 a.m. to noon March 26 and April 23.

There will be a movie matinee for adults 10 a.m. to noon March 27 for the movie “Singin’ In The Rain” and April 5 for “Roman Holiday.”

National Scribble Day will be observed 6-7 p.m. March 27 for youth.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club book for 10:30 a.m. to noon April 3 is “Running With Sherman: The Donkey with the Heart of a Hero” by Christopher McDougall. The next meeting is May 1. The book club meets virtually.

Creative Crafts in Alburtis for youth will be offered 3:30-4:30 p.m. April 2, 16 and 30 at the Alburtis Area Community Center, 220 W. Second St.

The program “A Day in the Life of a Landscape Designer” will be offered 6:30-8 p.m. April 2.

Celebrate National Find a Rainbow Day! for grades 2-5 with a STEM exploration of rainbows 6-7 p.m. April 3.

There will be an Eclipse Party for all ages 1:45-4:30 p.m. April 8. Eclipse glasses will be provided for safe viewing.

Books & Beyond will meet 6:30-8:30 p.m. April 8 at the Alburtis Tavern to discuss books, music, movies, TV, travel, life and more. The book for the May 13 meeting is “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith.

There will be a Chit Chat & Craft Night 6-8 p.m. April 9. Adults can craft their own miniature library out of small tin boxes.

Representatives from Genesis Lehigh Commons and the Alzheimer’s Association will provide an informational program on dementia and memory support 6:30-8 p.m. April 11.

A Voice for All: Accessibility, Advocacy & The Seeing Eye will take place 1-2:30 p.m. April 15.

A new book club – Alburtis Afternoon Book Club – will meet 1-2:30 p.m. April 18 to discuss “The Dictionary of Lost Words” by Pip Williams. The book club will meet at the Alburtis Area Community Center.

There will be a Family Nature Quest for students in grades K-5 with adult 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 20. Families can go on a self-pace exploration of the outdoor area of the Lower Macungie Township Community center.

Friends of the Lower Macungie Library will accept book donations through March 28 for the spring book sale.

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Spring Book Sale will be held 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 3 and 4 in the Lower Macungie Library. Friends’ Preview Night is 5-7:30 p.m. May 2. Join the Friends that night and purchase books before the weekend crowds. All proceeds from the book sale benefit the library.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold its annual Community Easter Egg Hunt promptly 10 a.m. March 23. Arrive early for registration.

Concordia Lutheran Preschool will hold an Earth Day Clothes Recycling Event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 at Concordia Lutheran Church on Brookside Road. Acceptable items for the clothing drive include new and gently used clothing, shoes, coats, bedding and towels. No stuffed animals will be accepted.

There will be family friendly Earth Day activities and food 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Lower Macungie Township Senior Citizens will meet noon April 2 and 16 at the community center, 3450 Brookside Road. Members are welcome to stay after the meeting to socialize and play games.

The Ancient Oaks Womens Association will meet 6:30 p.m. April 3 at St. Pauls U.C.C. in Trexlertown for a covered dish supper. Women from Ancient Oaks and the surrounding area are welcome to attend.

Easter bunny photo fun will be offered for children 10 and under 9-11:10 a.m. March 23 at the community center. Registration is required and is now open.

Lower Macungie Township pool memberships are available online starting April 1. Registration for swim lessons opens April 15.

The summer playground program runs June 24 to Aug. 9 for children ages 6-11 years. Online registration for Lower Macungie Township residents is now open.

Habitat Lehigh Valley ReStore will have a truck available at the community center to collect unwanted but new and gently used furniture, appliances and building supplies for resale 9 a.m. to noon April 20.

There will be a free document shredding event 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13 at the Lower Macungie Township municipal building parking lot. There is a limit of four medium-sized boxes of sensitive material.

Lower Macungie Township will hold a Community Day 4-8 p.m. May 7.

Lower Macungie offers garden plot rentals on Bogie Avenue. Those who rented plots last year could renew their plot rental for 2024 through Feb. 29 and plots are now available to rent on a first come, first served basis for residents and nonresidents. On April 10, 1-3 p.m., master gardener Steve Fluharty will teach how to grow new plants from cuttings. There will be a plant sale 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 11 at the community center.

Lower Macungie Township now offers indoor pickleball at the community center gymnasium. Advance registration is required.

Adult classes include baking, belly dance, yoga, karate, ballroom dance and tai chi. Youth classes include cooking, Kindermusik, Safe Sitter, tennis, pre-ballet and tot sports.

Yard waste center hours for March and April are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Yard waste permits are required for drop-off. The center is located at 5536 Indian Creek Road, Macungie.

Weekly curbside collection of grass clippings has begun. Collection will take place the day after your regular trash day. Yard waste collection will begin the week of April 15 on the day after regular trash collection and continue every other week.
