The Emmaus girls wrestling team competed in the first District 11 girls championships Sunday at Easton Area Middle School.

Emmaus finished 10th as a team, led by Olivya Kroope’s fourth-place finish. The Hornets had three wrestlers compete in place matches at the event.

Kroope pinned her first two opponents in the first period. She put Bethlehem Catholic’s Jade Sinchi on her back in 1:03 then showed Pocono Mountain’s Shea Stocklas the lights in 1:15.

After an 8-5 loss by decision to eventual champ Gracie Haflich (Liberty) in the semifinals, Kroope bounced back with a pin of Northampton’s Lilliana Brade in 2:03 to reach the 170-pound third-place match. Kroope lost 10-7 to Easton’s Maura Case in the third-place bout.

The Hornets’ Brynn Koberlein (136) and Petra Perez (190) both competed in the fifth-place match in their weight classes, with both finishing sixth at the event.

Koberlein pinned her first two opponents before falling to Northwestern Lehigh’s Angelina Spachman in the semifinals. After pinning Catasauqua’s Ariel Stallworth in a consolation bout, Koberlein met Palmerton’s Skylar Benninger in the fifth-place bout and was pinned in the third period.

Perez dropped her first two bouts, but in a small 190-pound field, moved on to the fifth-place bout where she fell to Bethlehem Catholic’s Charlotte Sampson, 4-1.

Parkland won the first District 11 girls team title, finishing with 160 points. Liberty (144), Easton (123), Pocono Mountain West (110), Palisades (86), Northamtpon (76.5), Pine Grove (60), Northwestern Lehigh (50) and Emmaus (46) rounded out the top 10.
