Northampton County Council met Dec. 14, 2023, to bid farewell to four of its members - John Cusick, Kevin Lott, Kerry Myers and Tara Zrinski.

Lott, who has served on the board since 2018, said he was proud of the tasks the board accomplished, including a new forensics center and distributions of pandemic funding.

Zrinski also served on the board for five years and will be taking over as county controller, after defeating Cusick in the election.

“This has been one of the greatest achievements I feel in my life,” Zrinski said. “Being able to serve in the position of county commissioner with all of you, I’m very grateful for this opportunity and the opportunity that I have moving forward.”

Joining the board in 2018, Myers made history as council’s first Black president.

“I appreciate the fact that I did make history, and it’s not that important that I did; it’s more important that I served the people who put me here,” Myers said in closing.

Cusick served as a council member for 16 years and received a clock for his service. He thanked his wife for going on this journey with him and the county council staff who dealt with his “heckling and badgering” for information.

Executive Lamont McClure thanked the outgoing members on behalf of county citizens, saying he and the board cut taxes, preserved farmland, fought through a pandemic, saved small businesses and got people vaccinated in that time.
