Orefield man dies of injuries sustained in crash Jan. 22 in Lower Macungie Township

Two people were hurt, one fatally, in a two-vehicle accident on Hamilton Boulevard at its intersection with Kressler Road, Lower Macungie Township, Jan. 22, according to news releases from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police.

John H. Milliman, 91, of North Whitehall Township, was pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, 2:15 p.m. Jan. 22, according to authorities.

Investigators determined the cause of death to be blunt force injuries to the chest due to a motor vehicle collision.

The manner of death was determined to be an accident.

According to authorities, Milliman was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 65-year-old motorist, of Orefield.

The motorist was injured in the crash and transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

The accident was outlined as follows in a news release from Pennsylvania State Police:

A Freightliner truck tractor with a flatbed trailer was northbound on Hamilton Boulevard/U.S. Route 222 North around 10:38 a.m.

The Orefield motorist, driving a BMW X3 sport utility vehicle, was southbound on Hamilton Boulevard/U.S. Route 222 South in the left turn lane.

As the SUV made a left turn across Hamilton Boulevard onto Kressler Road, the truck struck the SUV on its passenger side, causing the SUV to spin, stopping near the center median.

The truck driver was not injured.

The Orefield motorist was described by state police as sustaining “suspect serious injuries.”

First responders to the crash scene included crews from Cetronia Ambulance, Macungie Ambulance, Wescosville Fire Company, Macungie Fire Department, Lower Macungie Fire and Rescue and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Pennsylvania State Police forensic investigators, Stew’s Towing and Ironton Auto Body also responded.

Investigating agencies also include the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, according to authorities.
