Hard work pays off Seth Pascoe’s work ethic helps lead WHS

When he was in elementary school, Seth Pascoe decided to begin wrestling. His father, Damons Pascoe Sr. proved to be a driving force.

A few years later, Pascoe was ready to take the next step.

“It was my last match at districts during my freshman year (a 4-0 loss to Bangor’s Zachary Poff at 138 and was 2-6 for the year), said the senior. “I didn’t do very well, but that match really shaped the rest if my career.

“It showed me that if wanted better results, I would have to work much harder to attain my goals.”

That worked.

Since his freshman year, Pascoe has had a 61-28 overall record beginning this week, having a 24-5 slate at 145 this season. Yet, he has kept his current season in its proper perspective. He has a twin brother, Damon, and younger brother, Kade, a sophomore.

“My season has been going great so far, and it has been a tough season,” said Pascoe. “But what is a wrestling season without some grit. I’ve had some ups and downs like my wins and losses at the holiday tournament, but I have been really impressed with myself on how I have been able to perform for my team and myself.

“I believe coach (Tim) Cunningham has gone above and beyond in the offseason and during the current season to prepare me and my teammates for the season. However, coach Cunningham got me dedicated to the sport.”

Cunningham’s influence heightened his enthusiasm and drive.

“He basically told me that if I wanted to be respected and disciplined among other things, I had to hit the weights and I did,” stressed Pascoe. “Now, I love the sport that pushes you this hard, and it has such a gritty atmosphere. I love the hardworking mindset, and I love it all.”

Cunningham has seen Pascoe’s passion.

“Seth’s greatest strength is that he has a lot of heart,” said Cunningham. “He has improved dramatically over the last four years through hard work and the desire to get better. We will get in the room and work on his finishes with his takedowns and working on the top position.”

Keeping in the family, Pascoe believes he has benefitted from his siblings. Twin Damon is 20-8 at 127, and Kade is 21-8 at 114.

“My brothers and I constantly argue who is better or who could beat who,” said Pascoe. “Since we re all different wight classes, it’s hard to say for sure, but they constantly push me. We pick each other up, and force each other to go the limit.

“Some of their technique has rubbed off one me a bit, but I think that’s the part where we really splinter and take our own paths, as we each have drastically different styles.”

Pascoe is looking to keep his pace toward districts. The Zephyrs will conclude their dual match season Wednesday against Stroudsburg on their senior night.

“I plan on continuing to attack this season with everything I have against any opponent,” he stressed. “If there is anything I can control it is effort. I know that I can’t break, and if I do, I can’t bend.”

Seth Pascoe and the Zephs head into the district duals this weekend.
