Hornet boys fall to WWL

Emmaus and Wilson West Lawn are both among the best boys swimming programs in the state and they competed head-to-head annually. In this season’s meeting, Wilson West Lawn downed Emmaus 119.5-66.5.

Logan Shriver was the lone Emmaus boys’ swimmer to win an event when he swam the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:44.92 to win by :02.49 over Wilson’s Jackson Williams. Shriver also finished second in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing just .71 seconds behind Tommy Houck in that event. In relays, Shriver anchored the team of Griffen Messenlehner, Julian Vlaeminck, and Andersen Borst, that finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay and added another second-place finish when he swam in the leadoff spot of the 400-yard freestyle relay where he was followed by Borst, Messenlehner, and Logan Hartman.

Emmaus also took the number-two spot in the 200-yard medley relay with Borst teaming up with Hartman, Garrett Longbons, and Vlaeminck in that event.

Messenlehner finished the meet with four second place finishes when he placed second in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. In the 100 freestyle, Messenlehner was tied by Wilson’s Ezekiel Eberly with a time of :48.55, which was a personal best for both swimmers. In the backstroke, Parker Gamler finished third for Emmaus, beating teammate Logan Hartman by just .15 seconds.

In diving, Emmaus’ Robbie Barnes finished third with a score of 194.6 and Doug Cornish placed fourth with a final tally of 177.35 to pick up points for the Hornets.

The loss dropped the Emmaus boys to 8-3 overall this season. In EPC meets, the Hornets are 6-1.

Emmaus has dual meets at Liberty and then at home against Nazareth and will have swimmers competing in the Cedar Crest Classic at Parkland on Feb. 3 and in the Last Chance Meet at home on the 17th. That meet provides swimmers the opportunity to boost their times to qualify for the district swimming championship, which will be March 1 and 2 at Parkland High School.
