Sheckler News: No classes in school district Jan. 22; teachers have in-service

Catasauqua Area School District will be closed Jan. 22 for an Act 80 teacher in-service day.

Girl Scout troops are hosting an information session 6-7 p.m. Jan. 31 at Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua, 210 Pine St.

Now that we are in January and have experienced the first storm of the winter season, keep an eye on changes to the school schedule. Cancellations, delays and early dismissals will be sent through CASD communications and posted on social media.

There is a Home and School meeting scheduled for 6-7 p.m. Feb. 8 at Sheckler Elementary.

Looking ahead, CASD will be closed Feb. 16-19 for the Presidents Day holiday. Enjoy the long weekend!

Fourth-grade students have begun work on their science fair projects. All projects will be due March 13.

Sheckler is partnering with Weis Markets for the annual Weis 4 School program. To participate, register your Weis card online at weis4school.com and earn money for the school simply by shopping. Visit Sheckler’s Facebook page for the information flier and a QR code to register.

Visit Sheckler’s Facebook page to see the students get a visit from the Phantoms’ mascot MeLVin! He helped the elementary school during an assembly on bullying.

Catasauqua Youth Athletic Association is hosting an adults-only bingo and basket raffle March 2 at Catasauqua American Legion Post 215, 330 Second St. Doors open 11:30 a.m., and bingo begins 1 p.m.

There will be 20 games with cash prizes, special bingo games, a 50/50 raffle, a basket raffle, door prizes, concessions and a cash bar.
