Hokendauqua: Apply now for scholarship

Hokendauqua Park and Playground Association is accepting applications for its $1,000 Warke-Horn Scholarship. At HPPA’s March/April meeting, the organization will review all applications and select one girl and one boy to each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

To be eligible, applicants must be a Class of 2024 high school-eligible graduate; be continuing education in the fall of 2024; have participated in HPPA’s baseball, softball or basketball youth programs; and return the scholarship application form before Feb. 29.

Whitehall Township will hold a spring session of aqua aerobics, scheduled for Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 19 to May 14 in the natatorium at Whitehall High School, 3800 Mechanicsville Road. There will be no class March 28.

There is a cost for residents and nonresidents.

Mark your calendar: On March 23, Ironton Rail Trail Oversight Commission will host its annual spring historical walk. The event is free and requires no registration. Meet 9 a.m. at the red barn at Whitehall Parkway, 4041 Chestnut St.

Hike leaders Bob Abbott and Ray Bieak will take you on an approximately 7-mile walk. Allow around four hours, at a leisurely pace, for this event. Occasional stops will be to view buildings, historical sites and landmarks. It is recommended you bring water, a camera and binoculars.
