Girls sweep quad meet

After dropping all three of their meets at the State College Invitational to open the season, the Emmaus girls swim team came back with wins over East Stroudsburg North (133-17), Pocono Mountain East (120-44), and Stroudsburg (122-40) recently.

The meet opened with Hornets relay teams taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. Georgia Magditch, Sophia Harmon, Gloria Klees, and Veronica Karboski had a winning time of 1:58.44, besting Emmaus’ second team of Druthi Reddy, Liz Mazzetti, Izzy Sparaco, and Jillian Fidelman by nine-and-a-half seconds.

The Hornets took the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Klees, Reddy, Fidelman, and Daly Harper 12.5 seconds over a team from Stroudsburg. In the third relay event, the 400-yard freestyle relay, Emmaus again took the top two spots with Fidelman, Mazzetti, Karboski, and Sparaco finishing with a time of 4:06.27 and Kendall Shriver, Mandy Barnes, Daly, and Bella Marsh finishing in 4:19.87.

In individual events, senior Sparaco took first in the 100-yard backstroke and second in the 200-yard freestyle, with Klees taking the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly and second in the 200-yard IM. Klees win in the butterfly event came at the expense of teammate Georgia Magditch as the two battled to the end with Klees besting Magditch by .24 seconds.

Emmaus swept the 50-yard freestyle with Harmon beating out Magditch and Barnes for the top spot. Harmon also took second in the 100-yard freestyle. Reddy had two top three finishes with a second place in the 100-yard backstroke and a third-place spot in the 100-yard freestyle. Karboski placed second in the 500-yard freestyle event.

Daly, Fidelman, and Marsh also took third place finishes in individual events for the Hornets.

The schedule has just one meet against Central Catholic for this week and then nine days off before Emmaus takes on rival Parkland in their annual meet on December 21 at Parkland.
