NASD directors elect Vaughn president

Doug Vaughn was elected president and Kristin Soldridge was elected vice president of Northampton Area School District Board of Education. Taking the oath of office at the reorganization meeting, held Dec. 4, were John Becker, Michael Baird, Joshua Harris, Brian McCulloch and Soldridge.

Vaughn was elected by a 5-4 vote, defeating Baird. Vaughn was nominated by Harris. Baird was nominated by Becker.

Soldridge was elected by a 5-4 vote, also defeating Baird. Soldridge was nominated by Vaughn. Baird was nominated by Becker.

School directors voted unanimously 9-0 to approve committee appointments: Act 93, contract negotiations - Makary, Soldridge, Vaughn and Baird; employee benefit trust - Baird; expulsion - McCulloch and Bretzik; K-Kids Foundation - Makary; NASD community council liaison - Soldridge and McCulloch; PSBA liaison - Baird; policy - Bretzik and Vaughn; and safe school - Makary and Becker.

The technology and public library liaison committees were disbanded. The Act 93 and contract negotiations committees were merged. The meet and discuss committee will convene as needed. A Northampton Area Public Library representative is to present reports at school board meetings.

The policy committee meets 6 p.m. the first Monday of the month. The facilities committee meets 6 p.m. the third Monday of the month.

Soldridge was appointed to Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School Board of Directors through December 2025.

Makary was reappointed to the BAVTS board through December 2026. Makary was also appointed to the BAVTS Authority through January 2029.

School directors voted 9-0 to continue monthly board meetings in the Northampton Area High School auditorium, 1619 Laubach Ave.

The school board next meets 6:30 p.m. Jan. 8, 2024.
