Catty hands Falcons 10th loss

The Salisbury football team finished its 10-game regular season Colonial-Schuylkill League season last week against Catasauqua, the seventh district playoff team the Falcons have faced this season.

The Rough Riders, who are heading into this weekend’s District 11 Class 2A playoffs as the No. 3 seed, improved to 6-4 with a 35-14 win over Salisbury.

Catty opened the scoring in the first quarter when Hunter Reitz found the end zone from 5 yards out.

Reitz scored his second of three touchdowns in the game later in the first period on a 10-yard run.

Quarterback Aiden Hess connected with Roden Riley for a pair of second-quarter touchdowns, the first for 88 yards and the second for 9 yards, to give the Roughies a 27-0 halftime lead.

Catty kept the clock ticking in the second half after hitting the mercy rule on a 3-yard touchdown pass from Hess to Reitz for a 35-0 lead.

Salisbury got on the board when Derek Trinidad capped a 3-play, 45-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run.

The Falcons (0-10) got another score in the final seconds of the game when quarterback Andrew Lucas completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Jamanni Cruz. Gavin Cerco made both Salisbury extra points.

Riley led the Catty offense with three receptions for 107 yards and two scores. Reitz had 99 yards on 15 carries and two rushing touchdowns to go with his one reception, which also went for a score.

Hess completed 10 of 15 passes for 178 yards and three TDs.

For the Falcons, Lucas completed 6 of 18 passes for 108 yards, while rushing for 24 yards on four carries. Jason St. Leger led the Salisbury offense with 133 yards on nine carries. Jacob Bucchin had four receptions for 62 yards.

Salisbury will finish the 2023 season Thursday when it hosts Shenandoah Valley. The Blue Devils (2-8) come into the game on five-game losing streak. While both teams are Class 2A squads in the Colonial-Schuylkill League, they didn’t meet in the regular season and only faced one common opponent.

Their common opponent was Panther Valley (2-8), which beat Shenandoah Valley 39-21 on Sept. 15. The Panthers beat Salisbury 20-12 in the season opener on Aug. 25.
