Catasauqua borough council

Seven candidates are seeking four seats on Catasauqua Borough Council. The seats are four-year terms.

The candidates were asked to respond to the following question in 100 words or less:

What makes you uniquely qualified for this elected position?

DEMOCRAT ROBERT NAPPA

As an algebra teacher, my unique qualifications for Catasauqua Borough Council stem from my dedication to education, problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex situations. Teaching has honed my communication abilities, enabling me to convey ideas clearly and foster understanding among diverse groups. My experience in guiding students through challenging concepts reflects my patience and perseverance. These traits, coupled with a deep understanding of data analysis and critical thinking, will allow me to assess borough issues objectively and propose innovative solutions.

I am committed to bridging gaps, fostering community engagement and applying analytical expertise to address challenges our borough faces.

DEMOCRAT BRIAN BARTHOLOMEW

DEMOCRAT VINCE SMITH

Honesty, transparency and experience. Council has a lot of problems: half-truths at public meetings and in press releases. Decisions made behind closed doors, instead of in the public eye. Slashing and burning everything that pre-dates their swearing in, refusing to educate themselves on prior best practices and historically significant information.

In addition, the solicitor, code officer, treasurer and manager are all new, lacking critical, historical knowledge and information.

If elected, I will make it my mission to restore integrity and full disclosure to the borough, while providing historical perspective. The residents deserve open, functional government and complete transparency.

REPUBLICAN VIRGINIA G. SCHLEGEL

REPUBLICAN TAMMI A. HAUSER

REPUBLICAN EUGENE H. SCHLEGEL

As an incumbent candidate, I fought for people’s needs and concerns in the borough for the last eight years. I’ve been a volunteer for over 50 years. My first accomplishment is the refurbishing of Fireman’s Field, including the electronic sign. I am Santa’s special helper for 60 years in Catasauqua. I am a Vietnam-era veteran.

Originally, I promised to hold my constituents accountable for financial transactions, noting I voted no on serious spending decisions - and I was right. We were nearly broke.

To finalize, my ultimate goal in life is making people happy. That’s pure joy!
