Emmaus girls volleyball beats Allen, falls to ACC

The Emmaus High School girls volleyball team split two Eastern Pennsylvania Conference matches last week, defeating Allen in straight sets on the road last Monday, Oct. 2, but then fell to Central Catholic in four sets on Wednesday night at Emmaus.

The Green Hornets are now 10-6 overall and 9-5 in the conference, currently sitting in third place in the West Division, behind Parkland (14-0, 14-0) and the Vikettes (13-1, 13-1).

In the victory over the Canaries, four Emmaus players finished with at least four kills, with the offense led by nine kills from Claudia Walls. Cirrae Cuffy and Jasmine Shahda both finished with five kills, with the latter adding five digs, and Olivia East added four kills. Alyssa Heffner contributed 16 assists and five digs and Rowie Stephens added 13 assists. Lauren Horvath paced the defense with seven digs.

In the match with Central Catholic, Amanda Rivera Ayala and Carly Forsythe combined for 17 kills, with Ayala tallying nine and Forsythe adding eight. Ayala also totaled a team-high 17 digs. Cuffy contributed six kills and two digs and both Walls and Gwen Magida finished with four kills and four digs. Alyssa Heffner notched 26 assists and 11 digs. Horvath recorded eight digs and Haley Seidel tallied six digs.

Emmaus finishes off play in the regular season with a road match at rival Parkland on Wednesday night before beginning postseason play.
