Varsha Sivakumar, a sophomore at Parkland High School, through a solo dance performance, raised $5,200 for two local nonprofit organizations.

On Aug. 5, she performed her Indian Classical solo dance debut with a live orchestra from India.

She raised $2,700 for Allentown Rescue Mission and $2,500 for Aim for Seva, in Saylorsburg,

Aim for Seva works to bring value based education and quality health care to children in rural India.

Allentown Rescue Mission’s Facebook page states, “A heartfelt thank you to Varsha Sivakumar and her wonderful family for their extraordinary generosity.

“Varsha chose the Allentown Rescue Mission as a beneficiary of her Indian Classical Solo Dance Debut at Mayura Academy of Dance and raised an incredible $2,700.

“In a beautiful show of support, Varsha, accompanied by her mother Nirmala and the rest of their family, visited the Mission to make this generous contribution and even received a personal tour of our facilities.

“Varsha’s kindness is truly heartwarming and will make a significant impact on those we serve.

“Thank you, Varsha and family, for using your talent to help rescue, rehabilitate and restore homeless men in our community.”
