NW’s Stitzel crosses 900-win milestone

The Northwestern Lehigh cross country teams competed in their first two Colonial League regular season meets of the year last week.

The team’s longtime head coach Chris Stitzel crossed a milestone during last Thursday’s meet, earning the 900th victory of his coaching career.

Here’s a look at the Tigers’ first two meets.

Tuesday, Sept. 12

No. Lehigh-Northwestern-Palmerton-Pen Argyl-Wilson-Bangor

The Northwestern girls went a perfect 3-0 during a Colonial League cross country meet at Bangor, while the Tiger boys finished 2-1.

Sophia Cornell paced the Northwestern girls with a second-place showing, while teammate Haley Dubois crossed in fourth place.

In the boys race, Xander Giandomenico had the best finish for the Tigers, placing seventh.

Northwestern head coach Chris Stitzel earned his 900th-career victory during a Colonial League meet at Catasauqua.

Stitzel, now in his 25th season, also reached the 500-win mark with the girls program. Both Tiger teams posted 4-1 marks, falling to Southern Lehigh.

Northwestern’s Xander Giodomenico placed third, while the Tigers’ Sean Kershner finished fifth.

Northwestern’ Sophia Cornell crossed the line fourth in the girls race, helping Stitzel reach his milestone.
