Benner places fourth, team third at EPC Tourney

The Parkland golf teams finished the regular season last week and began postseason play on Monday.

The Trojans (12-4) capped the regular season with a loss to rival Emmaus, 420-426 last Thursday at Brookside Country Club.

The Hornets’ Noah Schurman led the effort with a 7-over par 78 at Brookside Country Club. Evan Walters (82), Zach Yenawine (85), Andrew Kleist (86) and Karson Krasley (89) made up the Emmaus team score in the match.

Parkland’s best score came from Landen Benner (81) with teammates Mujtaba Jaffer (83), AJ Sundstrom (86), Chloe Chase (88) and Jake Posocco (88) rounding out the team score.

Several Trojans went on to compete in Monday’s East East Penn Conference Championships at Olde Homestead.

Parkland finished tied for second place as a team at leagues with a team score of 328, one shot better than fourth-place Emmaus. Benner shot 4-over par 76 to lead the Trojans and finish in fourth place overall. Sundstrum finished 12th with an 80, while Jaffer (84) and Chase (88) rounded out the team score for the Trojans. The Trojans Charlie Gold shot 93 in the tournament.

Chase’s 88 earned the senior second place in the girls tournament. She finished just three shots behind winner and defending District 11 champ Camryn Hoff of Northampton, who shot 85 for this year’s league title.

Stroudsburg’s Hunter Probst won the EPC individual title with an even-par 72. Northampton’s Gavin Pychinka (74) finished second with Liberty’s Jase Barker third (75).

Pychinka led the Konkrete Kids to the team title at 317 strokes. Nazareth scored 328 to tie for second place.

The District 11 Qualifying Tournament is slated for Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Olde Homestead. The District 11 individual and team championships will be held a week later, Tuesday, Oct. 3 at Steel Club.
