Soccer teams hit tough part of schedule

The Salisbury soccer programs have come upon some tough times of late.

The boys team opened the season 3-1, but fell to Bangor (2-1-1 Colonial, 3-2-1 Overall) and Wilson (3-0, 4-1) scoring just one goal in the two games to leave them 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the Colonial League. Meanwhile, the offensive slump for the girls team continues as it fell to 0-5 both in league play and overall.

In their six games, Salisbury has outscored their opponents 12-11, but had a three-game stretch where they scored 10 of their 12 goals. Their goals against average is also slightly skewed by the six goals they gave up in their season opening loss to Kutztown.

The upcoming schedule has games against Catasauqua (1-1, 2-3) and Notre Dame (Green Pond) (2-1, 3-3) on the way.

The girls’ have been outscored 24-0 in their five games, with the most recent loss coming Monday night at home against Northwestern Lehigh when they fell to the Lady Tigers 8-0.

Generating offense has been an ongoing issue for the Lady Falcons, whose last goal came in the fourth game of last season when they scored three goals in a win over Catasauqua. Last year’s version of the Falcons won two games with a total of four goals in those wins and have now been shutout in 12 straight games.

Like the boys’ team, the Lady Falcons have games against Catasauqua (0-2, 0-4) and Notre Dame (Green Pond) (1-1, 1-2) on the schedule. Catasauqua has allowed an average of six goals per game this season.

Results and statistics from Salisbury soccer games have not been received by the Press for most of the teams’ contests this season.
