Maureen Carr

Maureen Carr, 86, of New Tripoli, died May 14, 2023, in Cornerstone Living, New Tripoli.

She was the widow of John Carr, who died in 2008.

Born in Ecclesfield, South Yorkshire, England, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Kathleen E. (Bingham) Walker.

She attended school in the UK, and later moved to the states to raise her family.

In addition to caring for her growing family, she raised Arabian Horses for many years on her family farm in Walnutport.

Affectionately known as “the Queen” and “Lovey,” she was a little lady with a huge zest for life.

Always the life of the party, her warm smile, infectious laugh and her wonderful sense of humor made her fun to be around.

Her sparkly jewelry, flashy clothes, personal style and beautiful British accent made her unforgettable.

She made friends everywhere and always took the time to make people feel special.

The biggest fan of all her children, she supported them in everything they did by giving selflessly to allow them to pursue their dreams in both motocross racing and horse showing.

Not only a supporter of her children, she also supported her extended family of motocross racers and fellow Arabian horse owners and enthusiasts.

She lived a full and happy life and will be sadly missed by those who knew her.

In the words of John Steinbeck, “It is so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone.”

The stars will glow a little dimmer without her.

Her survivors include daughters Alicia M. Kovach of Truckee, Calif., Madeleine T. (Kevin) Huyett of Alburtis, and Rebekah E. (David) Gehman of Edwards, Colo.; sons Alastair J. Carr of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Dominic D. (Julie) Carr of Alburtis; grandchildren Derek Carr, Elspeth and Ian Huyett, Aynsley Gehman, and Catherine and Ethan Carr; great-grandchildren Cooper, Keiren and Quinn Carr; sisters Esme Cowley of Chapeltown, England, and Caroline Wood of Grenoside, England; brothers David (Lisa) Walker, and Richard (Sylvia) Walker, all of Grenoside, England; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Pauline Wildsmith.

There will be a celebration of life gathering held at the convenience of the family.

Interment in Ecclesfield Cemetery, England.

In honor of her love for children and animals, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to any of the following charities in her memory: Mountainview Horse Rescue, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to The Sanctuary at Haafsville, c/o Nester Funeral Home Inc., 8405 Kings Highway, New Tripoli, PA 18066.
