Liberty-PHS in title rematch

You can say that Liberty is peaking at the perfect time this season.

The Hurricanes (19-4) continued their barrage of the postseason on Sunday with a 13-3 demolition over Northampton in the District 11 semifinals.

It marked their ninth straight win and fourth straight win of the postseason of defeating an opponent by 10 runs in mercy rule fashion.

The EPC champions have been on a tear as of late and get ready to defend their district crown from a year ago with a 7 p.m. Wednesday night matchup against Parkland (21-3) in the district finals at DeSales.

Parkland survived a 7-6 semifinal win over Nazareth to set up a repeat of the EPC championship, where Liberty throttled them 10-0 in a mercy rule.

Liberty head coach Andy Pitsilos knows that while Liberty’s success this postseason has been dominating, they’re going to get a hungry Parkland team on the diamond Wednesday night.

“Parkland is a really good team and we will have to play our best to beat them,” he said. “We are fortunate right now to be clicking offensively. Hopefully we can keep it up.”

Liberty racked up the hits again in ending Northampton’s season, belting 15 hits in the win. Noah Gyauch-Quirk and Tommy Mason each had three hits and drove in a combined five RBIs against the K-Kids.

One of Mason’s three hits included a two-run homer and Ayden Zabala got the win on the mound, allowing nine hits and striking out six.

After winning districts last year and making a run to the state finals, Liberty looks on pace to make another deep postseason run.

“Our message is just stay simple,” Pitsilos said. “Take one at bat at a time, one pitch at a time, one inning at a time.”

Freedom saw their season end last week with a 12-2 loss to Nazareth in the district quarters.

The Pates finished the season 9-12.
