LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Wilson drives in five runs vs. Zephs

The Emmaus High School baseball team was not a beneficiary of the weather the last week-plus.

The Green Hornets had three games in a row rained out and had a span of not playing for 10 straight days. But there was not much rust once they got back into competition last week.

After winning five consecutive games to finish out the month of April, Emmaus continued its winning ways by winning back-to-back games by double digits to start May, taking down Whitehall 12-2 last Thursday at Church Lane Park, and then beat Allen 15-4 on Saturday on the road. The next day, however, the Hornets fell to rival Parkland for the second time this season, losing 3-2 at Parkland High School.

Against the Zephyrs, Emmaus finished with 12 hits in the five innings and scored runs in all but the last one. Colin Wilson recorded two hits, including a home run, and had five RBIs. Noah Hogan led the way going 3-for-4 and scoring three runs. William Fleck, Emmit Budick and Zach McEllroy all contributed two hits on the day. Shane Ohl started and earned the victory on the mound and combined with TJ Geist and Ryan Latchford for the win.

The Green Hornets had an eight-run top of the second inning after scoring two in their first at-bats to take control of the game early. Chad Kauffman and Budick each had two hits and two RBIs to pace the lineup. Cohen Schadler finished with a hit, an RBI and scored two runs. Geist started and threw two innings, earning the victory.

Emmaus got on top of Parkland with a run in the top of the second inning thanks to a Schadler sacrifice fly. The Trojans answered in the bottom half with two runs to take the lead. They added another in the fourth to take a two-run advantage. Hogan, who led the Hornets with three hits, had an RBI single in the top of the fifth to pull his team to within one run, but that was all the offense could muster up the rest of the way.

Emmaus concluded its regular season portion of its schedule with a nonconference game at Cedar Cliff this past Monday. The Hornets are currently have a 13-6 overall record and are 12-4 in conference. They will be a top-four seed when the EPC Tournament begins this week.
