Putting shorts on for the first time each spring and seeing those white, untanned appendages called legs sticking out is a somewhat startling experience. I pulled out the shorts last weekend and, as I walked into the kitchen, I announced “Everyone put their sunglasses on!” Five, four, three, two, one. Cue Ben. Ben covers his eyes with his hands and cries out in a loud voice, “Ow, ow, my eyes! Someone get me some sunglasses!” What a comedian!

The next township column will be published June 21; copy deadline is June 15.
