Sosnovik scores 100th goal

While East Penn Conference teams battle in the league playoffs, Northwestern Lehigh (9-6) will be wrapping up their regular season schedule with games against Moravian Academy (5-8) and Southern Lehigh (2-12) this week as they prepare for districts. Barring anything unforeseen, Northwestern will head into its postseason as the top seed in Class 2A, while Allentown Central Catholic (9-6) will be the number-two seed, a flip-flop of last season.

Last week, Northwestern split a pair of games with a 7-5 win over Moravian and a 15-8 loss to Parkland, the top seed in 3A lacrosse.

Against Moravian Academy, Austin Sosnovik scored twice while Cade Christopher, Cody Hallock, Devon Hildebrand, and Stone Sosnovik all scored single goals. Goalie Bailen Smargiassi made 18 saves for the Tigers.

Austin Sosnovik again came up big against Parkland when he netted four goals, while Hildebrand, Blaine Snyder, Carter Zentz, Lucas Heeps, and Hallock all scored goals in the loss. Smargiassi made 15 saves against the Trojans.

The elder of the two Sosnovik brothers, Austin, scored his 100th career goal recently, marking a milestone in his career. As a senior, Austin Sosnovik has been a key part of a Tigers team that reached districts for the first time last season and went to the district finals before being taken down by Central Catholic. After scoring 31 goals as a junior, Austin Sosnovik has 41 on the season with at least two regular season and one postseason game remaining to be played.

Last season, Northwestern pulled off an upset win over Moravian Academy in districts before going to the finals against the Vikings, who won the 2A championship. With the higher seed and another season of maturity under their belts, the Tigers are looking for the first district championship in the four seasons of games for the program.

Blaine Snyder, a junior, is second on the team in goals with 33 and also has 12 assists on the season, leaving him second to Austin Sosnovik in that category as well.

As a tandem, the Sosnoviks have 60 goals and 25 assists this season.
