LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Lacrosse playoffs begin this week

The Emmaus High School boys lacrosse team finished its regular season last week, splitting a pair of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference games, one at home and one on the road.

The Green Hornets squared off with rival Parkland, the current top team in the conference, for the first time this season and were downed 14-8 in the final home game of the regular season last Tuesday night, May 2. But the Hornets made sure to not head into the postseason on a down note as they bounced back to take down Pleasant Valley on the road last Thursday night in the regular season finale, 19-3.

Emmaus finished the regular season with a 12-5 record and 7-2 mark in the conference. The Hornets were tied with Freedom and Easton at 7-2 in the EPC, but they received the fourth seed and will take on the Trojans Wednesday at Northampton High School. The Patriots are the two seed and will play the third-seeded Red Rovers in the semifinals.

In the game with Parkland, Emmaus was right before the Trojans took over the second half, including the fourth quarter where they outscored Emmaus 4-1. It was 4-4 after the opening quarter and 6-5 at halftime, but Parkland outscored Emmaus 8-3 in the second half to finish out the win.

Will Barber led the Hornet attack with four goals, while both Aidan Garrett and Jack Restino finished with a pair goals each. John Hughes had two assists and Liam Rooney added one. Sam Rainford made 17 saves in net.

Against the Bears, it was a little bit easier for the Green Hornets. Restino had a season-high effort with six goals and an assist, while Rooney added four goals and two assists. Barber, who finished with three goals and seven assists, went over 250 career points. Kaleb Mains had a hat trick. Chase Muckey contributed two goals and Ashton Fehr rounded out the scoring with one goal. Rainford stopped four shots. Garrett won all 18 of his faceoff attempts.
