EHS falls in D-11 tourney

The Emmaus boys tennis program’s 2023 season is over after a disappointing loss last Monday in the District 11 3A quarterfinals to Parkland, 3-1.

Emmaus coach Fred Saab expected the Green Hornets to be among the EPC’s top four teams this season - along with Liberty, Freedom and Parkland. Emmaus finished the season with a 10-8 record and 10-5 EPC record.

Eddy Chow was the Hornets’ No. 1 singles player and had a fine season. The senior displayed an all-around tennis game and temerity at key points during his matches. Chow gave Saab consistency in the No. 1 slot and a good chance to win almost every time he took the court.

“Eddy is a seasoned veteran player,” Saab said. “He is a very smart and talented player with an all-around strong game and can hit any shot needed.”

Nick Stone and Zach Moser, the team’s No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively, also had good seasons. Saab was pleased with their growth and maturity.

The Hornets had strong doubles play all season. No. 2 Ryan Baig and Quinn Durkin nicely complemented each other’s game and gave opponents problems. No. 3 Sarvesh Senguttvan and Quaid Peatiwala played well at times, while No. 4 Huy Huynh and Abdoul Aidala improved as the season transpired. Also seeing periodic action was No. 1 doubles Josh Haas and Cole Stuchko.

Parkland went on to lose to Freedom in the district semifinals. The Patriots then fell to Liberty in the championship match.
