New police officers take oath of office

At the April 10 Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners meeting, Jordan Isaac and Joelle Mota took the oath of office to become part of the township’s police force.

Both are currently completing their field training.

Isaac previously worked as a 911 dispatcher in Northampton County, also serving as an EMT and volunteer firefighter, before beginning his police training in July 2022.

Mota served with the Catasauqua Police Department before transferring to Whitehall in March.

In other business, the commissioners approved four motions, entering into indemnity agreements with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, as discussed at a previous meeting. These agreements mean the township is one step closer to solving the traffic issue resulting from drivers turning into the McDonald’s parking lot off Mechanicsville Road.

According to township Engineer Frank Clark, the westbound lane of Mechanicsville Road is expected to be widened two feet, at PennDOT’s request, which will create a runaround zone for drivers to get around those turning into the parking lot.

Treasurer Tina Koren announced during the meeting she feels “the Whitehall tax office is back on key to make this township proud.”

During the 23 working days in March, she said the three tax clerks receipted more than 5,523 transactions and a total of $3.2 million, including business licenses, moving permits, garbage bills and more.

Koren also said, as of March 31, the office was up to date on all taxes.

Commissioners will meet next 7 p.m. May 1 in the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road.
