A backyard game made for a great fundraiser at the Northwestern Lehigh Education Foundation Cornhole Tournament Feb. 25 in the gymnasium at Northwestern Lehigh Middle School.

Amy Kinnon, director of development, and a few of the NWLEF board members have been talking about it for a few years.

“We were hoping to create an event that was family-friendly, and involved our students and the community,” Kinnon said.

NWLEF high school student ambassadors were very involved in the planning of this event.

Kinnon notes that there were 40 teams in total.

There were 31 Backyard Bracket Teams and nine teams in the Kids bracket.

“We had seven high school teams in the backyard bracket and nine middle school teams in the kid bracket.”

A shout out goes to Shawn Leh, State Farm Insurance agent, Fogelsville, as the title sponsor for this event.

“We raised just over $10,000 including our sponsorships and annual partnership,” she said. “This funding will help NWLEF reach its fundraising goals for the year so we can continue to fund projects such as our teacher-mini grant program and other requests made by the school district.”

NWLEF will essentially reach a total of $2 million donated since its inception.
