Groundhog Lodge 16 welcomes women to annual banquet

By LOU WHEELAND

Special to The Press

A first for this year’s Grundsau Lodge 16 fersommling (banquet) was the inclusion of women on the guest list.

Members and guests attending the groundhog lodge’s celebration in the Northern Valley EMS banquet hall, Ormrod, were treated to traditional Pennsylvania German food including pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad with hot bacon dressing, cottage cheese and apple butter. Ice cream was served for dessert.

Dave Adam, Haaptmann (president) served as master of ceremonies.

He conducted the banquet in Pennsylvania German, with occasional breaks for an English translation.

As always, many attendees also spoke the dialect.

Music was provided by Joe Kroboth and Bobby.
