Public hearing set on petition to vacate streets in Salisbury

A public hearing to discuss a petition to vacate streets will be held before the start of the Salisbury Township Board of Commissioners’ March 9 meeting.

The commissioners will hold the hearing 7 p.m. in the township municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.

A petition to vacate Roosevelt Avenue, between Harrison Avenue and Logan Street, will be discussed.

Those interested must attend in-person.

More information and file review in advance can be requested from Salisbury Township Planning and Zoning Officer Kerry Rabold at: krabold@salisburytownshippa.org or 610-797-4000, ext. 5825.

Legal aspects of the procedure to vacate a street were discussed during the Feb. 23 commissioners’ meeting workshop. The streets in question were Paoli Street, Montgomery Street and Wayne Avenue.

The commissioners’ March 9 meeting will proceed after the public hearing concludes.

At the Feb. 23 meeting, commissioners voted 5-0 to approve:

•An ordinance clarifying Salisbury Township Police Department ranks. Commissioner Vice President Rodney Conn made the motion. seconded by Commissioner Alex Karol, to bring the ordinance to a vote.

•A resolution authorizing Salisbury Township Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich to execute settlement documents for the McAuliffe property purchase. Commissioner Alok Patnaik made the motion, seconded by Commissioner Heather Lipkin, to bring the resolution to a vote.

Bonaskiewich said a vote on the proposed Salisbury Township Police Department training facility could be on the agenda of the March 23 commissioners’ meeting.

Patnaik discussed a complaint he received from a resident concerning the parking of a camper on a residential property and a vehicle that allegedly hasn’t been moved for two months along a street.

Salisbury Township Police Chief Don Sabo reported 87 candidates have applied to the township police department. “Our push has apparently paid off. I don’t recall us ever receiving so many. We should be able to pick two candidates,” Sabo said.

The township website states the Salisbury Township Public Works Department will hold curbside branch collection for residents during the week of April 17.

Residents are to place branches at the curb after 6 p.m. April 16. Branches may be no larger than 5 feet long and 5 inches in diameter and should be bundled and tied with twine. An open container may be used for small twigs, but no bags or lids are permitted. No more than six bundles/cans per property is permitted.

Upcoming township government municipal building meetings include: planning commission, 7 p.m. March 22 and board of commissioners 7 p.m. March 23.
