Magditch posts top times in two events at LC Meet

For 30 years now, area swimmers looking to reach districts have had one final opportunity. The annual Last Chance Meet was held Saturday at Emmaus High School, giving that last big push before the District 11 meet coming up in two weeks.

Emmaus had several swimmers who took advantage of the opportunity and posted qualifying times, and in some cases, personal bests. The hope is that they will be among the top 16 times posted this season to qualify for districts.

Three female swimmers from Emmaus posted the fastest times in their events Saturday.

Junior Georgia Magditch posted the top time in two events, finishing the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.24 and then coming back in the 500-yard freestyle and finishing with a time of 5:26.85. Meanwhile, Izzy Sparaco took the top time in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 2:20.11. Another junior, Mandy Barnes, finished with the second-best time in the 500, finishing in 5:54.18 and freshman Bella Marsh finished in 6:00.62, the fifth fastest time in the event.

Senior Natalie Mack was not far off the pace set by Magditch in the 100-yard butterfly, when she posted the third-best time in the event, finishing in 1:03.57.

“I know at Emmaus we had so many kids, especially our newcomers, perform lifetime best times and leave with smiles on their faces,” said coach Tim O’Connor.

The newcomers for Emmaus did have a good day and took their turns in the spotlight. Gabby Antunes had a time of 2:06.23 in the 200-yard freestyle, the third fastest time in the event. Classmate Druthi Reddy was the number-four finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke when she turned in a time of 1:13.76. In the 100-yard freestyle, a pair of freshman swimmers finished back-to-back with Emelia Pechulis finishing in :57.35, being pushed by teammate Sophia Harmon, who finished just behind her at :58.16. The duo had the fifth and sixth fastest times in the event, respectively.
