Borough to investigate fence removal at Turkey Hill

Emmaus Borough Council met March 6 and the meeting began without public appeal.

Mayor Lee Ann Gilbert wanted to thank the Emmaus Arts Commission for the Winter Arts Festival held March 4. She commented on the tremendous attendance and was really proud of the work the commission did to put the festival together.

In communications, the Emmaus Public Library will hold its third annual Tee Time. It will take place 6-9 p.m. March 24 for adults and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 25 for families at the library.

In other business, council approved Security Release Number 1 for the work completed on Chestnut Ridge at Rodale. The second item was Resolution 2023-11.

Resolution 2023-11 approves the revised preliminary/final land development plan for David Real Estate Holdings regarding work on 306 Broad St., Emmaus. This was approved without discussion.

The meeting quickly moved to budget and finance, as all other committee reports were approved without line items. The bill list was the only item approved during Councilman Chris DeFrain’s report. The bill list totaled $466,907.72.

Nothing was to report during the borough manager’s report and president’s business.

The meeting was then adjourned. There was an executive session to end the meeting.

Following the executive session, council reconvened. A motion was made to amend the agenda to add a discussion on the primary building codes official for the borough.

Council appointed Shane Pepe as the building codes official.

This was in regard to the unauthorized removal of the fence around Turkey Hill at Sixth and Chestnut streets. Council wants to ensure the safety of the borough’s residents. This will now be investigated.

The next Emmaus Borough Council meeting will take place 7 p.m. March 20.
