Gilboy, Christine lead Emmaus divers at leagues

The Emmaus diving team has taken some lumps over the past few seasons. However, things are starting to turn around.

The team had three girls and one boy competing in this year’s East Penn Conference Diving Championships with improved results over last season. The good news is that of the four, two are freshmen and are joined by a sophomore and a junior, giving the Hornets a foundation to build upon over the next few years.

On the girls side, Keira Gilboy, a junior, finished eighth with a score of 149.20, just ahead of Emmaus sophomore Sara Christine, who had a score of 144.85 in the six-dive meet held at Parkland High School over the weekend. Freshman diver Elle Bagley finished 12th among the 22 girls competing in the event.

Gilboy finished ninth in districts last season, also finishing just ahead of Christine in the final standings.

On the boys side, freshman Robert Barnes was the only Emmaus diver competing and finished 10th with a score of 143.65

The girls competition was won by Bethlehem Catholic’s Anna Petke with a score of 254.10, with Madison Cunard (Easton) and Keller Pooley (Liberty) finishing in second and third.

Districts will be held Feb. 25 at Emmaus as a start to the District 11 Swimming and Diving Championships. The swimming portion of districts will be held the following weekend at Parkland High School and states will be at Bucknell University on March 17-18.
