LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

BAVTS NEWS by Jada Wackley Competitions begin

BAVTS began the holiday season with Jack Frost Dec. 7. Executive Director Adam Lazarchak dressed up and took pictures with students. With his white spiky hair and his pointy ears, he certainly was surprising to see.

Additionally, he brightened everyone’s day Dec.14 by giving out free hot chocolate to students. Students came ready to learn and were surprised with hot chocolate as they entered the building. It was a great way to celebrate the holidays with our BAVTS family.

Starting off the new year, BAVTS held a jacket drive. Throughout, students donated used jackets and coats to their classes. How many coats and jackets a class has will determine who will win the prize: a class invitation to snow tube with the National Technical Honor Society at Blue Mountain Ski Area.

On Jan. 26, SkillsUSA district competition was held at the Agri-Plex, Allentown Fairgrounds. It was an exciting showcase of skills for Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical, Career Institute of Technology, Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Monroe Career and Technical Institute and Upper Bucks County Technical School. The competitors already passed a pre-test, and if they won their respective competitions, they will move on to state competitions held in Hershey April 13.

Competitors demonstrated their skills in 34 construction, electronics, food service, transportation, personal care, technology, and health and safety competitions. All together, there will be 60 competitions held throughout the Lehigh Valley.
