During the Salisbury Township School Board reorganization meeting Dec. 7, the gavel was passed from outgoing President Sarah Nemitz to newly elected President Christopher Freas. Freas, who currently serves the board as treasurer, subsequently resigned his position which paved the way for the board to elect Laura McKelvey as treasurer for the remainder of the term which will expire June 30, 2023.

The board also elected Joseph Gnall to continue to serve the board as vice president.

The board also approved the committee and board meeting dates for the 2023 calendar year although those dates and times are likely to change in light of the board’s discussion related to holding three meetings per month.

In September the board began holding finance committee meetings in addition to the work session meetings in an effort to delve deeper into the financing of capital projects within the district.

At the suggestion of board members Rebecca Glenister, Joseph Kuzo and Carol Klinger, the board discussed reverting back to the original two meeting format even though the meetings would inevitably take longer.

Kuzo also suggested changing the meeting times to be consistently held 7 p.m. Many board members were in agreement with the time change and a few proffered ideas to reorganize what topics are covered during work sessions and regular board meetings. A new schedule is in the offing and once finalized it will be advertised publicly.

The board will hold an operations and finance committee meeting 7 p.m. Jan. 11, 2023.

The curriculum and technology committee meeting will be held 7 p.m. Jan. 18, 2023 which will be followed by a regular school board meeting.

All meetings will be held at the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road, Allentown.
